I am pleased to say that we are now able to offer microchipping as a service in your home or mine for dogs, cats and other small mammals. This can be done for whole litters needing chipping before going to their new homes or in the case where you may have an older cat or small animal that hasn’t been chipped before but which you would like to have done to either meet the upcoming new cat laws or just for peace of mind.
I am fully trained by Peddymark and as such DEFRA approved for microchipping dogs and small animals and insured with PetPlan Sanctuary for your peace of mind.

Is it the law to have your dog microchipped?
Yes. Ever since the law came into effect on 6th April 2016, all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales must be microchipped and their details registered on one of the authorised databases.
Under this law, all puppies must be microchipped by 8 weeks old and by the time the they leave for their new homes. This means that the breeder must be the first registered owner of the puppy on their details at which point they can be transferred to the new owner.
It is the responsibility of the dog owner to keep their pet’s details up to date with the database under this law. As well as being microchipped, it is still a legal requirement for dogs to wear a collar and tag with the owner’s name and address on it when in a public place.
Owners who do not get their dog microchipped and registered with an approved database face a fine of up to £500 if caught. The only exception to this law for pet dogs are those who a vet believes should not be chipped for health reasons.
If you rehome your dog to someone else, you must give the new owner the correct microchip registration paperwork so that they can contact the database and register as the dog’s new owner.
What about cats/small animals?
Whilst it is not yet a law that cats must be microchipped at present, this will be the case soon as the Government has plans to make it mandatory for all cats over 20 wks old to be microchipped much in the same way as dogs. More can be seen on this on the Government website here.
It may not be law as yet but it is still certainly advisable to get your cats and even rabbits, ferrets, etc microchipped and kept up to date as this could prove invaluable should one of them go missing and be brought in as a stray to a shelter or vet. Imagine you have lost your beloved pet and unbeknownst to you they are sitting in a rescue centre somewhere unclaimed. By microchipping them, at least you increase the chances of being reunited.
Cost
The cost of chipping will vary between £10 – £18 per animal dependent on the number of animals being chipped (e.g. one cat or a litter of puppies) and the location and therefore distance travelled to your home. You can of course bring your animals to me and I can chip them at home as well.
Please contact me with details of the type of animal and numbers needing chipping and I will be able to give you an exact price.
